Versus (not) Put On Hold
UPDATE: Apparently all claims that development on Versus has been put on hold were false. According to a statement released by Sqaure Enix: "Reports that development for Final Fantasy Versus XIII is on hold are false. The truth of the situation is that when free, some staff from the Versus team have been helping with the XIII team on development of Final Fantasy XIII. Development for both titles is continuing as originally scheduled." ORIGINAL: In a recent interview with Final Fantasy Versus XIII director Tetsuya Nomura, he has declared that all development on the game has been put on hold. The programming team, in an effort to finish the "number one priority" sooner than later, has been absorbed into the FFXIII development team. All work on Versus will commence once FFXIII is complete, which is now rumored to be sometime in 2009. Not all is bad for Versus, however. Nomura did state that while the planners and programmers are working on FFXIII, the concept artists and designers will still be working on the title, fleshing out the visuals and (possibly) giving fans more original artwork in the long run. Also, Nomura states that the storyline for Versus is "pretty much complete." Perhaps this even extra production time could benefit the game after all.
Agito Having Problems, But Still In Prodction (and dropped by FFi)Mentioned in the interview as well was the current state of Agito, Square Enix's mobile phone project. The title is suffering from "serious development issues" at the moment, apparently due to complications with the "huge worldview and historical timeline." Whatever the case, the director of Agito has taken over the storyline writing himself. Regardless, with little to no chance of ever being released in North American or Europe, Agito has been dropped from FFi's list of covered games. Sources: Forever Fantasy, FinalFantasyXIII.net |
